Pankaj Bhagwat

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Manitoba . Previously, I was a Max Wyman Assistant Professor and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta , where I worked with Prof. Bei Jiang and Prof. Linglong Kong . I received my Ph.D. in Statistics from the Université de Sherbrooke under the supervision of Prof. Éric Marchand , and my BS–MS in Mathematics from IISER Pune .

My research develops statistical foundations for trustworthy artificial intelligence and modern machine learning, with an emphasis on conformal prediction, uncertainty quantification, algorithmic fairness, dependence modeling for complex and non-Euclidean data, and Bayesian and decision-theoretic inference. I am particularly interested in methods that provide rigorous finite-sample guarantees while remaining useful in contemporary data-science applications.
